Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA June 2023 6 Air Storm Fans Installation Framing The rough in opening for the fan is an exact measurement that accounts for the heads of fasteners and openings for fan. Ensure there is proper clearance for installation or rough opening may require larger measurements. Fan Model Rough Opening (Width x Height) 36” Poly Outside Mount Panel Fan 43” x 43” (144.8 cm x 144.8 cm) Additional Mounting Holes may added to accommodate rough openings that range between large and small rough openings

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA June 2023 7 Air Storm Fans Assembly 1. Remove packaging from fan and cone if applicable. • Locate hardware kit(s) and supplied literature and store for later use. • Ensure not to damage the fan or components during this step. Cut a Treated Lumber 2”x4” to 46” Length. Attach to the exterior of the building with the top of the 2’x4” 23 Inches above the center of the rough opening, and centered below the rough opening horizontally. Provided treated lumber is used the 2”x4” may be left in place after operation, alternatively after all lag bolts are installed the 2”x4” may be removed.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA June 2023 8 Air Storm Fans 2. This step require (2) installers. Place bottom of fan assembly onto the top of the 2”x4”, rotate until fan interior face of fan mates with the wall then secure using sheet metal screws (805060) the outer hole pattern is for the large rough opening, inner hole pattern for small rough opening. 3. Loosen set screws on both pillow block bearings. There are a total of 4 set screw, be sure to loosen only, do not remove! This allows the shaft to slide into position in following steps. 4. Rotate shaft plate into position and secure with carriage bolts, nuts, and washers from hardware bag number 4 as shown below.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA June 2023 9 Air Storm Fans 5. Install prop onto shaft allowing approximately 1 inch of the shaft to protrude through the hub of the prop. Correct orientation of the prop should have the set bolt facing the intake (motor) side of the fan. Use Key from hardware bag number 5 on prop end of shaft. Apply Loctite 290 to prop set bolt and secure to 150 inch lbs. Optional bearing shims are provided in hardware bag as well.. If needed these can be installed under the bearings to raise the height of the shaft. By design these are not needed but are provided in the rare case the height of the shaft needs to be adjusted. To install bearings shims simply loosen bearing hardware and slide bearing shims under the bearings and re tighten bearing hardware. Additionally if prop is off center horizontally bearing hardware should be loosened, prop centered, then hardware re tightened. 6. Rotate motor plate to align holes and install carriage bolts, nuts, and washers from hardware bag number 4.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA June 2023 10 Air Storm Fans 7. Loosen bolt holing tension arm in place and rotate as shown below. Once in place retighten bolt 8. Install motor onto motor plate as shown using hardware from hardware bag number 8. The motor should be centered horizontally and should be slide as far toward the exhaust side of the fan as possible.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA June 2023 11 Air Storm Fans 9. Install motor pulley onto motor shaft. Key to be utilized is taped to the motor. Do not tighten set screws at this time. Set screws should face the intake side of the fan. Motor pulley should be oriented with large side facing interior of building or intake of fan. 10. Install Belt by placing belt around tension arm and drive sheave, then rotate large pulley so the belt rotates onto the assembly. Check for proper tension, the second indicator mark on the belt tensioner is the desired operating tension. If belt lacks tension adjust tension arm as needed ! ENSURE ALL PULLEYS AND DRIVE COMPONENTS ARE PROPERLY ALIGNED TO ALLOW THE BELTS TO OPERATE ON THE SAME PLANE ! If required, loosen bearing set screws to adjust drive pulley location. If loosening bearing set screws alone don’t not allow shaft to move loosen the mounting hardware of ONE of the bearings to free shaft 11. Once components are aligned validate clearance of prop around orifice and also check for clearance between the prop and motor. There should be a minimum of ¾” clearance between the prop and nonshaft end of motor. Finally tighten all set screws on bearings, on pulleys and recheck set bolt on prop. Validate all hardware is tight before continuing.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA June 2023 12 Air Storm Fans (Optional) Attach weather stripping to the outside of the orifice roughly ¼ inch form the minor edge (shown in red) Remove Butterfly assembly crate. Insert 4 cap head screws from the inside of the butterfly assembly (holes are threaded to hold fasteners in place). Tighten with Allen wrench until snug.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA June 2023 13 Air Storm Fans 12. This step requires (2) installers. Hook the butterfly assembly on the top of the outside of the orifice. Ensure the vertical support is properly aligned and the butterfly is oriented correctly (SEE BELOW IN RED) before continuing. Manipulate the orifice inside the butterfly assembly and loosely attach the mounting brackets with lock nuts. Press butterfly onto the fan assembly until the edge of the throat bottoms out against the vertical and horizontal members of the butterfly assembly. At this time also inspect tightness of fit of the butterfly to the orifice. BE SURE TO VALIDATE BUTTERLFY ORIENTATION AGAIN! SPRING ATTACHMENT BOLTS SHOULD BE ORIENTED TOWARDS THE GROUND. 13. From inside the house attach the butterfly spring bracket as shown. Then attach both supplied springs onto the predrilled holes in the bracket securing the other end to the bolts on the butterfly door using supplied 1/4”-20 stainless lock nuts from the hardware kit

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA June 2023 14 Air Storm Fans 14. Assemble cone. This step requires (2) installers. Begin by placing one cone panel on the ground with the end with connection slots slightly elevated. Insert the connection tabs into the connection slots and rotate to parallel. Continue for all 4 panels. Connect cone panels to form round shape. This step requires (2) installers. Stand the cone upright with the larger diameter on the ground and force the cone to bend to allow the final connection tabs to insert into the remaining connection slots. Secure round connections with 5/16”-18 X 3/4” hex bolts, 5/16” flat washers, and 5/16”-18 serrated nuts leaving the slots closet to the larger diameter open at this time. A washer should be used on the inside and outside of each connection. BOLT HEADS SHOULD BE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CONE! 15. Using 2 people lift the cone and butterfly assembly and slide OVER THE BUTTERFLY BUT UNDER THE MOUNTING BRACKET! Push onto the assembly until slots bottom out on the mounting bolts. Twist cone to lock into place then completely tighten lock nuts to secure.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA June 2023 15 Air Storm Fans 16. Drill a ¼” hole at the 12 o’clock position in the cone assembly at the butterfly ring to the exit side of the fan.
