Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA February 2022 2 Evaporative Cooling System System Calculations In order to properly set up the Auto-Drain OPEN TIME must be properly set. 1. The OPEN TIME needs to be calculated. For GrowerSelect evaporative systems this is simple, the run time is the same as the total length of connected trough. For example a 100 foot system should simply flush for 100 minutes. For GrowerSelect evaporative systems flow rate should be assumed to be 2.0 gal/min and water storage capacity should be assumed to be 2.0 gal/linear foot. The system info chart provided below provides additional lengths and OPEN TIMES for GrowerSelect Evap systems. Please note that each indicator on the run time potentiometer equals 20 minutes! PLEASE NOTE, THE DEFAULT VALUE FOR OPEN TIME IS SETTING 1 (10 DAYS) UNLESS YOU COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING pH EVALUATION DO NOT ADJSUT THIS VALUE! For those concerned with water consumption pH can be monitored to determine a “minimum” flushing schedule. To determine DAYS utilizing pH evaluation follow the procedure below. a. Completely empty system and storage tank and refill with fresh water. b. Measure initial pH, a digital handheld meter is preferred.to test strips. Digital meter DPH-80 can be ordered at your local Hog Slat or Georgia Poultry Store. c. With system operating normally continue to monitor pH every 5 days until pH equals or exceeds 8.5. The number of days elapsed between initial reading and reading equal to or greater than 8.5 is your optimal CYCLE TIME. Please note that each indicator on the DAYS potentiometer equals 5 days! Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA February 2022 4 Evaporative Cooling System Installation Information Before beginning installation turn off water supply and discount pump from power! 1. Open lid to HSCC-5000 and wire HSCC-5001 to the terminal block shown below. The wire should pass through the small liquid tight. Red wire should be located on left terminal and black wire on right terminal as shown below. Ensure the liquid tight is properly sealed around signal wire. 2. Adjust the OPEN TIME to the setting determined earlier. 3. Adjust the DAYS setting ONLF IF THE pH EVALUATION WAS COMPLETED! 4. Install Batteries supplied with kit. 5. While the sun is up test the unit by pressing and releasing the test button. If the photocell is working properly the photo led will illuminate. If the valve is installed and working properly the valve will open and the out led will illuminate. The valve will return to the closed position after a few seconds. IF THE UNITS FAILS TO OPERATE INSPECT CONNNECTIONS OF PHOTOCELL, HSCC5001 AND ALSO CHECK FOR PROPER BATTERY INSTALLATION. 6. Re-install lid and tighten screws

For an end fill evaporative system the auto-drain should be located as far from the system fill point as possible. For a system with 2 fills the auto-drain should be installed at a position equal distant from each fill. This layout allows fresh water to replace dirty water as shown in the image below. Avoid installing HSCC-5000 directly under light fixture. HSCC-5000 has a photocell and installing directly under light fixture may cause the unit to operate incorrectly.

Please note the bulk head should always be located on the trough, roughly 4” from the end of the system. If the system is on concrete the hole should be located 1.25” from the bottom of the trough, if the system is mounted on brackets the tank fitting may be located on the bottom of the trough provided there is a minimum of 12” clearance between the bottom of the trough and the ground. See image below for details about hole location. A 1-1/2” hole saw should be used.

Newton Grove, NC USA February 2022 7 Evaporative Cooling System To provide the user with the ability to drain water away from a building a hose fitting is provided that can be attached to a ¾” garden hose (sold separately) A ¾” GARDEN HOS SHOULD BE USED, USING SMALLER DIAMETER HOSE MAY REDUCE THE FLOW RATE!. This adapter should ONLY be used when a hose is attached, Additionally a threaded plug is provided should the valve ever need to be removed. Install plumbing components as shown below using Teflon tape on threaded connections. ENSURE MOTORSIZED BALL VALVE IS ORIERNTED WITH ENCLOSURE FACING UP TO ELIMINATE WATER INTRUSION!

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA February 2022 8 Evaporative Cooling System 9. Install HSCC-5000 onto trough ! THE SCREW MUST BE LOCATED ABOVE THE WATERLINE IN ORDER TO AVOID THE SYSTEM LEAKING! MAXIMUM OF 1” from the top of the Note Orientation of HSCC-5000 in Image below. This is critical to ensuring moisture does not enter the enclosure. Screw should penetrate both trough and trough cover. Please note screw must be removed to remove trough cover! 10.Turn water back on and reconnect power to the pump. This completes installation

Failure to do so may result in corrosion and damage to the unit.  If desired the entire unit along with valve can be removed and stored during the winter  During operation in addition to testing the valve and photocell, depressing the test button and releasing will result in the out led will turn on and off for a number that represents the number of days since last flush.  TO ENSURE PROPER OPERATION BATTERIES SHOULD BE REPLACED AT THE BEGINNING OF EVERY COOLING SEASON!

Hog Slat will credit, repair, or replace, at its option any product deemed defective within this time period. Labor costs associated with the replacement or repair of the product are not covered by the Seller/Manufacturer. Warranty Extension Coverage The Limited Warranty period is extended for the following products: Conditions and Limitations 1. The product must be installed by and operated in accordance with the instructions published by the Seller/Manufacturer or Warranty will be void. 2. Warranty is void if all components are not original equipment supplied by the Seller/Manufacturer. 3. This product must be purchased from and installed by an authorized retailer/distributor or certified representative thereof or the Warranty will be void. 4.
